NiSource's rank changes

The company's ranking in 2010 was a decline from 2009 when it was ranked 289th on the Fortune 500. The Previous ranking was based on its 2009 revenue of $9,070 million (a change of -3 million compared to 2010) and profits of $79 million (a change of 139 million compared to 2010).

Another point of view

To many investors, profits are more important than the revenue a company earns. If the Fortune 500 was ranked by profits instead of revenue then NiSource would be ranked 312th rather than 336th due to its profits of $218 in 2010.
