Berkshire Hathaway, Inc. (BHI) primarily engages in the insurance and reinsurance of property and casualty risks, as well as reinsures life, accident, and health risks worldwide. It provides automobile, multiline, and credit insurance; and excess-of-loss reinsurance and quota-share coverage. BHI also manufactures T-shirts and fleecewear; uniforms for police, fire, postal, and military markets; and footwear. In addition, it manufactures clay bricks, concrete blocks, and cut limestone; distributes masonry products, such as glass block, brick, and tile; and sells marble and granite stones. BHI also produces water and solvent-thinnable general purpose architectural coatings; fiber glass wool insulation products for walls and floors, and pipe and duct insulation products; nonwoven mats, fabrics, and fibers used as reinforcements in building and industrial applications; and roofing systems and components. It offers manufactured homes, commercial real estate and consumer receivable financing, and annuity contracts; owns and manages manufactured housing communities; and acts as insurance agent. BHI also provides rental furniture and accessories; fractional ownership programs for general aviation aircraft; training to operators of aircraft and ships; and leases transportation equipment. It also provides wholesale distribution and logistics services to discount retailers, convenience and drug stores, restaurants, and movie theater complexes; and retails home furnishings, household appliances, electronics, computers, jewelry, watches, flatware, and collectibles. In addition, BHI offers tufted and woven carpets, and laminate flooring; home cleaning systems; confectionery products; wood and metal molding, matboard, foamboard, glass, equipment, and other framing supplies; and systems used in the grain industry and in the production of poultry and hogs. It also publishes news editions and sells kitchen tools. BHI was organized in 1998 and is headquartered in Omaha, Nebraska.
